Experience
Crane Maintenance Electrician
October 2002 to July 2013
Norfolk Naval Shipyard Portsmouth, VA I have 11 years experience of working in a heavy industrial environment as a Code 730 maintenance electrician for Norfolk Naval Shipyard. During that time, I was involved in every aspect of electrical crane maintenance from disconnecting diesel powered generators to facilitate removal and replacement, to removing and installing circuits, conduits, air conditioners, lights, contactors, motors, travel horns, resistors, transformers, sound powered phones, junction boxes, and controllers. I also assisted in a variety of other mechanical based jobs such as removing crane hooks, removal of travel motor seals, replacement of oils and fluids, and removal and installation of brakes on motors. Throughout my apprenticeship at NNSY, I became highly experienced with lockout/tagout procedures, OSHA regulations, the use of fall protection harnesses, and the importance of wearing personal protective equipment. I also frequently collaborated with the engineering and inspection departments to trouble shoot problems within various electrical control circuits, such as bad transformers, malfunctioning hoist motors, and inoperable dead man switches. After my apprenticeship I continued internal shipyard education through the Code 700 training department to keep my skills sharp, and to stay on top of my responsibilities as a crane maintenance electrician.
