Jane is a youth intercultural transition specialist and culturally responsive educator driven to improve emotional, social and educational outcomes for students crossing cultures, their families, peers and those who educate them. Jane's work has been informed by 25 years experience in both international and local schools, parenting two cross-cultural children, a domestically mobile childhood and repatriation to Australia. Consulting to international and local schools, families and cross-cultural students, Jane develops their understanding of the impact of cross-cultural mobility, creates programs and implements support mechanisms to enhance learning and life.
Completing her MEd (Literacy) whilst living in Singapore, Jane focused a considerable part of her study investigating cultural mobility's impact on cross-cultural students and their learning. Combining this knowledge with teaching in an international school highlighted to Jane the fact that unmanaged mobility can be a major inhibitor to learning, yet through knowledge development and intentional support, she demonstrated that cross-cultural mobility can actually enhance learning and life.
Jane has developed programs to educate and support the key stakeholders in a cross-cultural child's community. From school staff training and in-house program development, public speaking addresses and one-on-one support, presentations to raise cultural awareness and workshop facilitation to develop parenting strategies, she has the knowledge, skills and framework to give cross-cultural learners, their families, peers and those who educate them, the greatest chance of success as they navigate the trials and triumphs associated with cross-cultural transitions, whether that be for two weeks, two months, two years or beyond.
More recently, Jane has worked among day and boarding schools, multinational companies and a mission organisation, advancing understanding of the needs of cross-cultural individuals and how best to support and empower them to be effective global citizens. A Safe Passage Across Networks (SPAN) Board Member and 2017 Parfitt Pascoe Writing Residency Scholar, Jane is co-author of Insights and Interviews from The 2017 Families in Global Transition Conference - Building on The Basics: Creating Your Tribe on the Move. Her writing has also been published in International Teacher Magazine, International School Magazine, The International Educator and I Am A Triangle.
