Activities and Honors

Lived and worked abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland (1998-1999) and Melbourne, Australia (2000-2002).

Travelled Europe (UK, Greece, Turkey, Budapest, Czech Republic, Malta), Southeast Asia (Thailand, the Philippines), Australia, South Asia (India, Nepal), Central America (Mexico, Costa Rica), South America (Brazil, Argentina).

After completing high school, I lived and worked abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland, from September 1998 to December 1999. During that time, I travelled continental Europe, including Greece, Turkey, Budapest, the Czech Republic, and Malta. From there, I travelled on to Southeast Asia, through Thailand and the Philippines, January-April 2000. Afterwards, I settled in Melbourne, Australia, where I lived and worked, and eventually began post-secondary studies at the University of Melbourne in February 2001.

In 2002, I returned to Canada as an exchange student from the University of Melbourne and did a year of studies at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Having discovered and begun practicing yoga in Melbourne in 2000, I decided to travel to India in the fall of 2003 where I spent a year practicing yoga and doing Vipassana meditations. Midway through that year, I travelled to Nepal for two months, and trekked Mount Annapurna. After India, I returned to Montreal, where I continued practicing yoga, and began avidly studying Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine, and holistic health & wellness.

In 2006, I resumed my university studies at Concordia University, this time studying Eastern Traditions, inspired by my journey to India & Nepal, my yoga practice, and all I had learned of the Eastern medical systems. In the summer term of 2007, I took an elective course offered by the Contemporary Dance Department. It was a one month intensive, where we danced everyday, culminating in a solo performance piece - I loved it. The department opened a place for me in the Contemporary Dance Program. I completed the first year of the program, which was a wonderful experience, and also not quite the direction I felt I needed to go.

In the summer of 2007, I also met the Fungineers, a group of performing artists. I was invited to join the Fungineer project, which, after completing the first year of the dance program, I did. In the summer of 2008, I relocated to Roberts Creek, BC, where the Fungineers' production facility, Dreamberry Studios, was located. I spent the next 5 years living, working, and touring with the Fungineers. During this time I also completed my first Yoga Teacher Training, a Permaculture Design Certification, and a Clowning 101 course. This is also when I began nannying for Lorijah, who I met in May 2008, when he was four days old. I spent this chapter of my life working, creating and performing with the Fungineers, nannying Lorijah (Loji!), and teaching yoga.

In 2013, the Fungineers decided it was time to move the project to Los Angeles. I could never imagine living in L.A. - it was time for a change. I had been visiting Portland OR frequently over those years, as the Fungineers would often travel down the West Coast on performance tours. We always made a point to stop in Portland on our way down and on our way back up the Coast; I loved Portland from the first time I visited. In 2013, when it was time for a change, I decided I would try life in Portland.

Before relocating, I travelled to Brazil in January 2014 to do a one-month dance intensive, called Silvestre Technique, in Salvador, Bahia. I then travelled to Argentina, spent one month in Patagonia trekking, and two months in Buenos Aires studying Spanish and tango.

When I returned from South America in the spring of 2014, I returned to California, and went to Occidental to begin nannying for Puma. In the fall of 2014, I moved to Portland and began the process of applying for my U.S. residency. During this time, I continued to visit Occidental, CA, where I nannied Puma.

During my time in Portland, I was also working on completing the last of my Bachelor's degree through Athabasca University. In September 2017, I began the Montessori Primary TT program at Montessori Northwest. I graduated from the program in June 2018 and then moved back to Nelson, BC, that same month, with the intention of putting down a taproot and settling down for good.

Since returning to Nelson, I completed my ECE certification. I worked at both Starseed Kindercottage and Lakeside Montessori during my first year back, and then worked full-time at Lakeside Montessori my second year back, until I was laid-off due to the covid-19 pandemic. I began working for Jordanna Fugman as one of her Care Aides the summer I returned to Nelson, in 2018, and I continue to work for her now.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my life journey to now. Apologies if it was lengthy, I hope it was helpful as an introduction :)
