Transferred to Applications Research working for multiple PhD supervisors testing the chemical interaction of titanium dioxide with other oxides and in paint systems. Ran accelerated heat stability for viscosity monitoring.
Moved to Product Research and Development in 1998. Created bench top scale prototypes by treating raw titanium dioxide with custom oxide coatings and processing into finished pigment using drying, meshing, and milling equipment. Conducted special testing and extractions of pigment for gas chromatography. Expertise in Malvern particle sizing and UV/Vis optical density analysis. Mastery in surface area, porosity and colloidal zeta charge analysis using auto pH titration to characterize particle surface activity.
Conducted experiments of titanium dioxide slurry formulation to increase stability and mold/mildew resistance. Worked a stint in production for three months to learn titanium dioxide finishing, packaging and warehousing. Operated palletizers and fork lifts. Traveled to plant sites for trial support by testing in-process and finished pigments. Analyzed data and reported to plant operators and engineers.
