I am a registered nurse in a Level 1 Trauma Center ED. I skillfully care for patients in all different scenarios; trauma patients, stroke patients, heart attack patients, cardiac arrests and respiratory arrests, and patients with the typical abdominal pain, broken bones, etc. I maintain excellent rapport with all of my patients and families, keeping them up to date and informed on everything to do with their care. I am able to handle high stress scenarios with ease. I am currently a relief night shift Charge Nurse in the ED and oversee up to 16 RN's, and multiple techs at one time when I am on duty.
I pick up shifts in the Pediatric ED along with my full time position in the adult ED. I love working with children. I am able to confidently take care of pediatric patients and their families. I administer medications and therapies as prescribed by physicians. I help pediatric patients understand and feel at ease with vaccines, tests and minor procedures.
I served 2 contracts with Carnival Cruise Lines as a ship nurse and served on the Carnival Splendor and Carnival Ecstasy. As a ship nurse, you are not just a nurse. I was the first responder to many illnesses and accident scenes on the ship. I performed XRAY's, tested bloodwork for lab results, administered respiratory treatments, and lead a stretcher team of employees to transport injured patients to the ship's medical center. I also arranged medical appointments and transportation in ports for passengers and employees needing additional services not provided on the ship. During my employment, we had to transport 2 different patients by helicopter back to US port due to illness, and I was the nurse to be transported with them. I also coordinated the vaccine administration program for crew members to receive thier annual influenza vaccines along with coordinating to have them recieve other mandatory vaccines while in port.
I was a Nursing Assistant/ER Tech in the Adult ED and Pediatric ED for 5 years prior to obtaining my RN license. I monitored vital signs, transported patients to radiology scans and to admission rooms, obtained lab work via venipuncture, obtained EKG's, and provided emotional support to patients and family members as needed.
