As a CMM programmer I am responsible for creating and maintaining dozens of repeatable measurement routines and for training others on their use. First piece layouts and PPAP inspections happen on a daily basis. This position requires proficiency in print reading as well as the use of manual measurement tools. Good record keeping and good personal communication skills are essential to this role. As a CMM/Layout technician I coordinate directly with the production department to ensure quality standards on new prototypes as well as long established projects. I work closely with CNC operators and programmers as well as engineers and customers.
My role as the CMM Programmer is to create robust and repeatable inspection routines for prototypes and PPAP submission. I am most often involved with PPAPs from start to finish. This requires APQP meetings, manual inspection and generating reports as well. I work with other engineers, technicians and sales staff on best practices in both print reading and inspection. My role as the CMM Programmer demands close attention to detail and a thorough understanding of GD&T. I also assist with gauge R&R, CPK and capability studies. I create reports and forms for internal and customer use and I'm often interacting face to face with suppliers and/or customers.
