Job-winning Cheer Coach resume

BreAnna Boon
Professional Summary

Cheerleading Coach with ten years of experience. I began coaching right after graduating high school because cheerleading is my passion. I myself was a cheerleader for 13 years, became a captain of the OHHS Cheerleading squad, and ultimately winning a national championship title with my team in 2006. Coaching isn't just about winning titles. It is about shaping athletes into young thriving adults. Creating a lifetime of happy memories that they will look back on and say " I had the best time of my life cheering in High School."  As a cheerleading coach, I am highly skilled at youth development, supervising athletes and involving parents in their children's athletic development and programming. I am open minded and always learning new ways to improve myself as a person, my self as a coach, and thus in turn, makes my cheerleaders better. I truly believe you are never to old to stop learning.

  • Teach kids how to be self-disciplined, motivated and take ownership for themselves.
  • Excellent Communication Skills Incredible relationship skills, including conflict resolution.
  • Open minded. Hearing new ideas, and being open to different things helps grow programs, and can be extremely beneficial to everyone involved.
Work History
Wrestling Cheer Coach, Basketball Cheer Coach, 10/2013 to 01/2015
Anacortes High School Anacortes
  • Provided Cheer coaching at Anacortes High School while developing and mentoring elite athletes.
  • Effectively communicated with a diverse group of athletes, coaches and game officials.
  • Served as the Head Wrestling Cheer coach for one season, before being promoted to Football and Basketball Coach.
  • Managed time effectively while traveling for games, attending practice and going to classes.
  • Exhibited excellent teamwork and a strong work ethic by promoting camaraderie.
  • Trained for 10 hours per week for upcoming games.
  • In the summer, we held 2 a day practices to help athletes better prepare for the upcoming season .
  • Encourage cheerleaders to research and take classes around WA state that will better their skills as a cheerleader.
  • Encourage kids to join an all star program, while working out schedules with that all star coach so the cheerleaders can manage to do both programs if they so wish. All star cheerleading is usually a year round program, which allows kids to better their skills in the High School off season.
  • Promoted company products to crowds ranging from 50 to 500 plus in attendance
  • Business sponsorship is important and beneficial to both the cheer program as well as the business itself. It increases the awareness of the company's products and services, while helping the school by not having to out more money than necessary. When crowd members see a local business on a football or the back of a t-shirt,  it can invoke a community feeling of loyalty among future and current patrons.
  • Developed and maintained key relationships with local companies. Cheerleaders were involved with many business and community events. Building a relationship with the Chamber of Commerce is a huge benefit to the community and cheerleading team.
  • Contributed articles to newspapers, social media, companies that offered contests, and more. Promoting your cheer squad in a great light helps the community understand why the cheer team is so important to a High School, and how it helps develop these kids into successful young adults. When the cheerleaders see themselves in a positive light in the local media, it makes them want to do more good things in their community and school district.
Volunteer Coach, 06/2011 to 05/2013
Oak Harbor High School Oak Harbor
  • Volunteered to help the JV team so the coach and assistant could focus on the Varsity team.
  • Practices consisted of teaching the cheerleaders the fundamentals of cheerleading which included, but was not limited to: Stunting, dancing, half time routines, tumbling, proper conditioning, motion drills, and more.
  • Paid individual attention to every squad member and pointed out their strengths and encouraged them to work on their weakness. Goal setting is a major factor in helping a team/athlete better themselves. I do not believe in negativity as motivation.
  • Displayed conduct before the students and the community to instill respect and good sportsmanship. As a coach, you are a role model. If your athletes see you displaying good behavior, they will follow suit.
Cheerleading Director , Mount Vernon Youth League Cheerleading Mount Vernon
  •  Reopened the program in 2008, including filing of all the appropriate paperwork for a 501C-3 organization. I am excited to say, this program is still thriving in that community today.
  • Found and interviewed cheerleading coaches for 6 teams in the youth program.
  • In charge of fitting and ordering uniforms for over 50 cheerleaders.
  • In constant contact with the parents, coaches, and board members to ensure everyone was being provided for. If there was an issue it was resolved immediately and without conflict.
Head Cheerleading Coach, 11/2016 to Current
Mount Vernon Christian School Mount Vernon
  • Prepared schedules and conducted practice session for the squads.
  • Determined the regulations regarding schedules, team spirit, sportsmanship, and more...ensuring that the cheerleaders adherence to these rules.
  • Encouraged the cheerleaders to make constant improvement. Motivated them on upgrading their performance by using fun games, providing treats, or special prizes. Positive reinforcement will get kids motivated more than negative.
  • Created an Emergency plan and practice it with the cheerleaders once a month. This plan includes such things like, who is in charge of calling 911 if the coach is injured and unresponsive. Cheerleaders sign this acknowledging they know what to do.
  • Prepared and handed out Cheerleading guideline booklet. This includes a page that the parent and cheerleader must sign, saying they agree to the cheer program rules. There is always room for discussion if there is a concern. Being open minded to new things helps programs thrive.
  • Managed team cohesiveness and established sound coordination between members and their activities. A cheerleader is a student, and as such I believe they should be involved in as many activities as possible. I am flexible when it comes to practice times, because you only get to live through your high school experience once. I want it to be the best experience for not only my cheerleaders, but the students and faculty they are representing.
  • Instructed athletes on healthy stretching, lifting, and jumping techniques. Proper conditioning everyday is the KEY TO AVOIDING INJURY.
  • Created an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Provided supervision of athletes at all times.Cheerleaders are never left alone during practice or games.
  • Taught the fundamentals of each sport the cheerleaders are cheering for. For example, if they don't know the basic rules of football/basketball/volleyball etc., they will not know what is going on when they are cheering at the games.
  • Promoted awareness of the cheerleading team by providing information to the principal and other relevant audiences about the team's activities.
  • Provided social media pages for the cheerleading team so we could positively promote our cheerleading team, and the proud parents could share their child's hard work.

Cheerleading Squads are Community Role Models, Community Service and Involvement

By having Cheerleaders involved in community service, it not only unites them as a team, but it strengthens the bond between the community and the kids. When time and effort is committed to an organization or cause, the kids benefit by feeling a sense of fulfillment within themselves, and that is not something that can be “taught,” but it is a life experience that will stick with them forever. I am involved in community events in many ways, and encourage my cheerleaders to do the same. A few of these events include:

  • Organized and choreographed a special performance for the OHYFCL Cheerleaders held at a business after hours Chamber event, with the guest of honor being the current Mayor of Oak Harbor.
  • Choreographed a routine for Explore Whidbey Event held in October 2014 –A special exhibition of the Oak Harbor Youth Cheerleaders at OHHS Vendor Trade Show.
  • Created a competition performance for Spiritfest where the cheer team took 1st place.
  • Participated in canned food drive within Broadview Elementary School, along with actively collecting box tops for education to help school with funding.
  • Taught an Extra Curricular Cooking Program benefiting the students of Broadview Elementary. 2012-2014
  • Chairperson for the Broadview Elementary “Rock Hop” dance 2013. Event was not only a huge success, but cost effective as we came in under budgets.
  • Yearly participation in Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Rely for Life, and Random Acts of Kindness Week.
  • Volunteer as a member of the Oak Harbor Youth Football & Cheer League Fundraising committee. Successful fundraising activities included annual car wash; various bake sales and other events during Holland Happening street fair, 4th of July fireworks stand and OHYFCL snack shack.
