    Summary
Motivated and ambitious computer programmer with a strong desire to learn and implement efficient solutions to problems. I am a life-long learner and enjoy learning new technologies so that I can apply them in the process to solve real world problems.
    Experience
Web Application Developer 09/2018 Halifax Regional School Board - Professional Development Halifax, NS
As a teacher in the Halifax Regional School Board, I identified a problem in which there was no technology designed for the purpose of tracking homework completion. I designed and created the user interface for a web application to solve this problem.

I built the front end of the web application in Angular 5 and I used Firebase as the back end. This application stores student information such as their name, email, and homework completion rates to the noSQL database.

This project was completed by following an agile scrum workflow. You can try the web application at https://homework-checker-webapp.herokuapp.com/  or you can view the repository for the project on GitHub at https://github.com/JohnMunro/homeworkChecker

Mobile Application Developer 09/2014 to 09/2017 Department of Education Halifax, NS
I was a part of a team that identified a problem in which students had difficulty visualizing a 3D object when described, or drawn, from a textbook. The team proposed a solution and worked with the Department of Education to design and create an augmented reality mobile application that would solve this problem. My role in this project was to implement and program the application as laid out by the design team. The application scans images from the Grade 10 textbook, and 3D models of the image appear on the mobile device. This application was delivered in both English and French and was ported to both Android and iOS. The application was build with the unity3D game engine.

After the project was delivered I was hired to give ongoing support and ensure the application stayed up to date with the operating systems to which it was deployed.

Although the app requires the Grade 10 math textbook to work fully, you may still download the app to see the designs and the features of the app.
The app can be downloaded for iOS at https://apple.co/2mWscFF
The app can be downloaded for android at http://bit.ly/2DqVxz6
or by simply searching EECD AR on either store.

    Teacher 09/2009 HRSB Halifax, NS
During my career as a teacher in the Halifax Regional School Board, I have implemented computer programming as a part of my curriculum practice.

I tasked my class with launching a high-altitude weather balloon and filming the blackness of space and the curvature of the Earth. The class built and programmed a temperature sensor to measure the temperature of the atmosphere as the balloon traveled to 100,000 feet. This device was built with a DHT-11 temperature sensor and a Raspberry Pi. The code was written in python. The class completed this project successfully and the video can be seen at http://bit.ly/2n19vRg

I mentored students as they took part in the St. Mary's University Hackathon, which the students won two years in a row. We built an augmented reality card trading game which won the students scholarships to the university.

During my time teaching I also taught students how to build robots to participate in robotics competitions. We competed in an underwater remote operated vehicle (ROV) competition as NSCC and won first place in the under water portion of the contest. I currently have students building a land robot to to compete in the Skills Canada - Nova Scotia competition later this year. This project requires programming Arduinos to communicate with various servos.

As as result of my continuous approach to implementing technologies into the classroom, I was lucky enough to have my class win a national competition with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). The CSA connected my school with Commander Chris Hadfield while he was on board the International Space Station (ISS). I spoke with Chris Hadfield, and he performed an experiment the students had designed, while on the ISS. A video of Chris performing this experiment can be seen at http://bit.ly/1GVdWlH

Web Application Programmer 09/2016 Personal Project Halifax, NS
Worked with a team to provide a solution that would allow users an efficient way to convert real world currencies to and from cryptocurrencies, such as bitcoin. My responsibilities were to implement and program the designs made by the design team. Cryptocheck was built with angular as the framework and uses live end points from the poloniex cryptocurrency exchange and a real world currency endpoint. This web application can be viewed at www.cryptocheck.io and the repository of the project can be found at https://github.com/JohnMunro/cryptocheck

    Technical Skills

I am most familiar with C++, C#, TypeScript, and JavaScript and feel very comfortable programming in these languages. I have explored Swift, python, PHP, FORTRAN, C, coffee script, action script, BASIC and Objective C.

I have also learned various softwares and frameworks. I am skilled in Unity3D and Angular. As a result of building web applications with Angular, I have become experienced with HTML, CSS and the bootstrap library.

    Soft skills
As a teacher in the Halifax Regional School Board I have developed excellent presentation skills. As a result of being a math teacher I am able to communicate complex topics in such a way that those who are not experienced with the content can understand them.

As a full-time teacher and the athletic director of one of the largest schools in Nova Scotia, I have developed the ability to multitask, effectually manage my time, and solve problems, all while staying organized.

As someone who is always working on a team, whether in the education setting or in the technical setting, I understand the importance of working with a successful and functional team. As a team player I understand that I am accountable to my team and that clear communication, expectations, processes, and collaboration are vital for the success of the team.
