  • Managed team cohesiveness and established sound coordination between members and their activities. A cheerleader is a student, and as such I believe they should be involved in as many activities as possible. I am flexible when it comes to practice times, because you only get to live through your high school experience once. I want it to be the best experience for not only my cheerleaders, but the students and faculty they are representing.
  • Instructed athletes on healthy stretching, lifting, and jumping techniques. Proper conditioning everyday is the KEY TO AVOIDING INJURY.
  • Created an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Provided supervision of athletes at all times.Cheerleaders are never left alone during practice or games.
  • Taught the fundamentals of each sport the cheerleaders are cheering for. For example, if they don't know the basic rules of football/basketball/volleyball etc., they will not know what is going on when they are cheering at the games.

Cheerleading Squads are Community Role Models, Community Service and Involvement

By having Cheerleaders involved in community service, it not only unites them as a team, but it strengthens the bond between the community and the kids. When time and effort is committed to an organization or cause, the kids benefit by feeling a sense of fulfillment within themselves, and that is not something that can be “taught,” but it is a life experience that will stick with them forever. I am involved in community events in many ways, and encourage my cheerleaders to do the same. A few of these events include:

  • Organized and choreographed a special performance for the OHYFCL Cheerleaders held at a business after hours Chamber event, with the guest of honor being the current Mayor of Oak Harbor.
  • Choreographed a routine for Explore Whidbey Event held in October 2014 –A special exhibition of the Oak Harbor Youth Cheerleaders at OHHS Vendor Trade Show.
  • Created a competition performance for Spiritfest where the cheer team took 1st place.
  • Participated in canned food drive within Broadview Elementary School, along with actively collecting box tops for education to help school with funding.  
  • Taught an Extra Curricular Cooking Program benefiting the students of Broadview Elementary. 2012-2014
  • Chairperson for the Broadview Elementary “Rock Hop” dance 2013. Event was not only a huge success, but cost effective as we came in under budgets.  
  • Yearly participation in Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Rely for Life, and Random Acts of Kindness Week.  
  • Volunteer as a member of the Oak Harbor Youth Football & Cheer League Fundraising committee. Successful fundraising activities included annual car wash; various bake sales and other events during Holland Happening street fair, 4th of July fireworks stand and OHYFCL snack shack.
